I hope you have all been surviving the hot summer heat and finding ways to stay cool! We have been staying busy at Iowa’s Dairy Center. Last week, we welcomed students back to campus and are so excited to have classes take place at Iowa’s Dairy Center. We are excited to provide students with hands-on learning experiences and watch them succeed in their programs. We are looking forward to some fun events this fall and winter; stay tuned! Fall and cooler weather will be here before we know it, so soak in the last few weeks of summer!

What's Happening at Iowa's Dairy Center

Tri-State Dairy and Ag Expo 

With fall right around the corner, we are busy planning for the annual Tri-State Ag & Dairy Expo held at Iowa’s Dairy Center. We are excited to welcome over 450 FFA members from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin high schools to participate in the event’s activities on Thursday, September 14. The expo will feature dairy cattle judging and dairy food contests. In addition, there will be several educational sessions including Iowa State University’s biosecurity trailer and a grain bin rescue with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety.  We will also be welcoming The Big Show for a live broadcast on-site. Teachers looking to participate in the event can contact us. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach this event!

Step inside the barn to watch robots milk cows, see where cows live and more! This interactive tour is available for all ages and groups of any size. Registration Open for Artificial Insemination Class

Nov. 28 - 30 | 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. | Iowa’s Dairy Center

This is a three-day hands-on class for those who wish to artificially inseminate their own cattle or gain experience to work for others. The class will cover all aspects of bovine reproduction, from anatomy and hormones to heat detection. Students have actual insemination practice on cattle at Iowa's Dairy Center. The minimum age requirement for this class is 16. The class is taught by Select Sires.

NICC News

Vice President of Student Services Candidate Open Forums

The public is invited to attend open forums hosted by the Northeast Iowa Community College. NICC is currently conducting a search for a new Vice President of Student Services. Three candidates have been chosen to interview for the position, Aug. 30 - Sept. 1. An open forum will be held in Peosta and Calmar for each candidate. Faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to attend. Read more.

NICC Invites the Community to Fall Fest

Thursday, Sep. 7 | 5 - 8 p.m. | NICC Calmar Campus

All are welcome at the annual Fall Fest on the Calmar Campus. Enjoy great food and music on the patio with inflatables, rides and carnival games for kids of all ages. This is the kick-off to Fall you don't want to miss! Learn more.

Employers Invited to the Agriculture Career Fair

Tuesday, Oct. 24 | 9 - 11 a.m. | Iowa’s Dairy Center

The agriculture faculty at Northeast Iowa Community College would like to invite you to the annual Agriculture Career Fair. It will take place Tuesday, October 24 from 9-11 a.m at Iowa’s Dairy Center. Approximately 75 first and second year students from the following majors will be in attendance: Ag Business, Ag Finance, Ag Production, Beef Science and Dairy Science. High school students are also invited to attend who are interested in the field to network. Set up can begin at 8:15 a.m. Each employer will be provided a 2x4 table. There is no cost for employers to attend. Register here.

Interested in pursuing a career in agriculture? Check out the Ag & Animal Program Preview Day in Calmar. This program preview day is designed for students interested in programs in Agriculture and Animal Science fields.  Speak with professors to learn more about the Agriculture Business, Agronomy, Animal Science, Beef Science, Dairy Science, and other programs that are offered at NICC. Board Member Feature

Ron Lenth

Ron Lenth has served on the Northeast Iowa Dairy and Agriculture Foundation Board of Directors for 15 years. He was raised on his family’s dairy operation in Clayton County. Ron spent 32 years in the Tri-state area with American Breeders Service, where he put on several AI training classes at the Dairy Center. Since 2009, he has worked with Bremer County ISU Extension. Ron and his wife have three children and three grandchildren. Ron has been a dedicated member of the Board of Directors and has served as the board’s treasurer for over 10 years. He also played a large role in helping with the fundraising efforts to create Iowa’s Dairy Center facility. Thank you for your years of dedicated service, Ron!
